If Scripture Is Simple And Easily Understood, Why Do People Make It Hard And Refuse to Understand?

This scripture is exceedingly simple to understand, yet people refuse to understand it.

Why?

Because human beings become convinced that their actions have no consequences - they can do whatever they like with impunity and all will be well because "Jesus is love".

This is absolutely not the case, so let's take the example of sexual immorality.

The results of sexual immorality are real.

These can include ruined marriage and other close relationships. Ruined relationships create emotional discomfort from sadness, guilt and loneliness. Splitting up households is expensive and for some, can lead to financial ruin.

Sexually transmitted diseases are always a possibility as a result of sexual immorality, where results can include physical discomfort as well as financial instability from medical bills and long-term health issues.

Contrast this to traditional marriage.

Two (equally yoked) individuals in committed, traditional marriage are blessed with an ability to be financially and emotionally stable because they are not spending their time and treasure at cross-purposes. They work together to create a safe, secure and loving home.

It's simply logical - bad behavior produces bad results - yet we often want to assign blame to others for our shortcomings because it's easier on the psyche to believe we're innocent bystanders caught in someone else's machinations.

We're not.

Most all our troubles arise from self-inflicted wounds. Living to follow the example of Christ to our best abilities helps solve 99% of all our troubles and travails.
