Rational Thinking In The Midst Of Chaos Is The ONLY Thing That Can Produce Rational Results

This morning I read
Psalm 57. David had fled to a cave to escape persecution by Saul and there he sings praises to God. He tells God all the things he's feeling about his situation and how much he loves Him.

Many of us are feeling persecuted right now. We feel helpless. No one in the human high places created to help us in such circumstances seem to want to help us or even acknowledge our persecution as a reality.
Some of us are even being fired from our jobs without a way to declare these circumstances unjust and recoup our losses and care for ourselves and our families.

Many of us feel like our lives have begun to spiral out of control with nowhere to turn.

David was far from a perfect man, but he knew that if he called on the Lord for help, He would provide. Not only that, but he knew one very simple fact that aided him throughout his life. A positive change in mental state produces positive results.

When something bad has happened to us and we're confused, angry, or frustrated, our brains shut down rational thought. All that feeling (the heart is deceitful among all things Jeremiah 17:9) churns within us, preventing us from thinking clearly and without rational thought, we are unable to see a path forward out of our distress.

David was in trouble, so He sang praises to the Lord (1 Samuel 21-23). His mind cleared as he determined to lift his voice in song because when purposing his mind to calm, peaceful thoughts, he was able to hear the Lord's words to him and decide how to best overcome his situation.

Mental chaos destroys rational thought. It's meant to. The devil is the Father of chaos and lies and from mental chaos lies are easily believed - I can't do this, I'm never going to see a way out of this, I don't know what to do.

Though it's not an easy task, when chaos reigns over life, reign over chaos with peace. If you're unable to think clearly, pull out the book of Psalms and read them - aloud if you must.

Remember - a change in attitude will change the mind and make thinking clearly easier. From clear, rational thoughts, solutions are much more likely to appear. Even if a solution isn't readily available, clear, peaceful, rational thoughts are better for the body and the mind than those filled with chaos and lies.
